Iris Classon - In Love with Code

Ask me (Q224): What are some applications you would recommend to create to learn C#?

A question I’ve gotten quite a few times is which applications I recommend a developer to create to learn C#. I don’t think there are any specific applications that will do that, but I can share with you the projects I’ve done in school, how I’ve learned from them, and how they challenged me (and the whole class).

What I forgot to mention, since I was running out of time, is also that we used different source control on the projects, different databases, and platforms. On the side I’ve done android and iPhone applications, and various web applications, learning to write scripts and macros and spent a great deal of time with SQL server.

I’ll sit down and make a list one day, its so easy to forget what you’ve done. I would love to hear your thoughts, and experience :)

The Zoo app was really good.
Another good idea is to make something you need for the moment because then you will feel more motivated.
Like when we had to start thinking about our first internship at school I made an application to keep track of the companies i was interested in(info about the company and a personal letter), doesnt have to be something fancy as long as it keeps you stuck infront of the computer.

Hi Iris. I have followed your blog for some time and while I think you do a great job most of the time I have to say that this video was incredible. While you were talking about the applications that you were tasked to create during your education I was doing the same. I am 32 and began my development education in Ohio,USA I must say that the projects that you worked on sound so amazing! So many different problems and technologies! I'm jealous :) Anyhow, keep up the great work.
